👣 Walk Description
We begin our Capital Ring adventure on this scenic walk from the historic riverside town of Woolwich to the peaceful woodlands of Falconwood. This varied route leaves the Thames behind and heads into South East London's hidden green spaces, offering a wonderful mix of parkland, ancient woodland, open commons, and panoramic viewpoints.

Starting near Woolwich Arsenal and the Thames, the trail soon climbs through Oxleas Wood, one of London's oldest surviving ancient woodlands, where winding woodland paths provide a welcome escape from the city. Along the way you'll pass the beautiful 18th-century Gothic Severndroog Castle, perched high on Shooter's Hill, with far-reaching views across London on a clear day.
The route continues through peaceful Eltham Common before finishing at Falconwood Station, making it easy to return to central London. This section perfectly showcases what makes the Capital Ring so special—connecting vibrant urban neighbourhoods with surprisingly tranquil nature, all within Greater London.
