À la croisée de la musique ancienne et des traditions méditerranéennes et orientales, l’ensemble Canticum Novum explore l’histoire d’Alep, cité façonnée au fil des siècles par la coexistence de cultures byzantines, arabes, ottomanes, arméniennes, chrétiennes et juives. Intitulé Samâ‑ï – de l’arabe samā‘, qui évoque l’art de l’écoute attentive et partagée – le programme, porté par les voix et les instruments du Proche‑Orient, brosse le portrait d’une ville de rencontres et de passages, où la musique a longtemps tissé des liens entre les peuples.

At the crossroads of early music and Mediterranean and Eastern traditions, Canticum Novum delve into the layered history of Aleppo, a city shaped over centuries by the coexistence of Byzantine, Arab, Ottoman, Armenian, Christian and Jewish cultures. Titled Samâ-ï – from the Arabic samā‘, evoking the art of deep, shared listening – the programme is carried by voices and instruments from the Near East. It paints a vivid portrait of a city of encounters and passage, where music has long woven connections between peoples.
