Call for Plein Air Artists
About this Event
Fresh Paint: A Plein Air Experience with Capizzo seeks artists to participate in a multi-day, outdoor painting event taking place in the Saugatuck-Douglas area. Artists have a total of 6 days (August 31 - Sept 5) to complete their paintings with two competitions taking place on Friday (Quick Draw) and Saturday (The Main Event/Opening Reception). All framed paintings completed during the Fresh Paint week will be eligible for display and selling at Capizzo beginning on Thursday Sept 3rd.

The event is limited to 40 artists so please submit your application soon!
Artists are welcome to participate in one or both events, all artwork created during the painting week or events will be for sale during the show dates.
Application deadline: August 23 at 11:30pm
Show Dates: August 31 - September 14, 2026
Quick Draw Event: September 4, 1:00 - 4:00 pm, public reception 6-8pm
Main Event: September 5, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, public reception 5-7pm
Quick Draw entry fee: $30 (this fee guarantees your artwork is shown on the walls September 4, for the remainder of the show there will be a dedicated table where they will be displayed)
Main Event entry fee: $45 (this fee guarantees that your artwork will be displayed on the walls for the duration of the show)
A map of locations suggestions for each day of painting will be provided at check-in.
Check-in at Capizzo is required on your first day of painting. Be prepared with your canvases/substrates for date stamping on the back side. This ensures that artists paint and submit work completed only during the week of the event. Participating artists are solely responsible for their own paints, canvas or substrates, easel or painting set-up and framing materials.
Artists will determine pricing for their paintings. Capizzo Studio’s policy is that 60% of the sale price goes to the artist before taxes, 40% will go to the gallery.
Artists are encouraged to post and tag Capizzo on their social media accounts as well as send images and video to [email protected] for posting on the Capizzo Plein Air page to announce their participation and progress throughout the week.
Note: plein air frames in either black or gold will be available for purchase up to 2 weeks prior to the start of the event on 8/31/26 though Frames for Friends in Douglas, standard sizes only, 8x10” or 9x12” or 11x14".

Quick Draw Event
Info: Quick Draw competition will be held Friday September 4 from 1-4pm. Artists will start at Capizzo for time stamping and have 3 hours to complete a painting and return to Capizzo by 4:30pm. There will be an open to the public reception and sales from 6-8pm with juried awards presented at 7pm. Awards will be given out for 1st place ($250), 2nd place ($150), and 3rd place ($100). After the event, artists are free to keep the artwork at Capizzo Studio for the remainder of the show dates. The artwork will be on a special table in the gallery for sale display September 5-14.

Main Event
Info: Main Event competition will be held Saturday September 5 from 9am-3pm. Artists will have 6 hours to complete 1-2 paintings to be submitted for exhibit and sales at Capizzo that evening. All paintings need to be dropped off, framed and ready to hang no later than 3:30pm. An awards ceremony and public reception will take place at Capizzo from 5-7pm. Prizes will be awarded to 1st place ($600), 2nd place ($400), and 3rd place ($200)
