California Biodiversity Day Bioblitz at Marks Ranch

Big Sur Land Trust will be celebrating California Biodiversity Day on September 12th at Marks Ranch!
Join our bioblitz volunteers for a morning of 'iNatting', collecting iNaturalist observations of the biodiversity found on and under the beautiful Coastal Live Oaks at Marks Ranch. Our observations will contribute to (1) the California Biodiversity Day 2026 project, (2) the "Find 30 Species for CA Biodiversity Day 2026" project, (3) CA Biodiversity Week 2026 Bioblitz at Marks Ranch, and (4) the Big Sur Land Trust iNat project. Join these projects to make sure your observations support them during the week of California Biodiversity Day (Sept 5-13) and beyond!
Marks Ranch was once a major egg production ranch, and home of Benjamin and Nisene Marks, who settled there in 1890. Big Sur Land Trust (BSLT) purchased the ranch in 2007, protecting important wildlife corridors. BSLT continues to care for its beautiful rolling hills, woodlands, meadows, grazing lands and 90 species of wildflowers. Marks Ranch is also now an eBird hotspot!
Much of the 816-acre ranch has become part of Toro Park. BSLT maintains its remaining 79 acres with the historic buildings in collaboration with Monterey County Parks. Your connection to this conserved and restored landscape doesn't need to end when the bioblitz finishes! The public is welcome to enjoy the benefit of self-guided hikes at Marks Ranch by reservation.
