Calendario de Adviento – A Spanish Advent (EEMF one-day workshop for singers)
A one-day participatory workshop for singers for the Eastern Early Music Forum at Arbury, north Cambridge.
Victoria ✯ Guerrero ✯ Ceballos ✯ Morales
Join David Allinson to herald the coming of Advent with a selection of beautiful motets from the Spanish Golden Age.
These days, the penitential nature of the weeks leading up to Christmas is generally forgotten in a headlong flurry of festive excitement, but for Renaissance composers the poetic liturgy of ‘waiting and watching’ inspired powerful and evocative music.
Intended repertoire:
(final choices dependent on forces signing up)
Victoria: Ne timeas Maria ✯ Ecce Dominus veniet ✯ Alma Redemptoris Mater
Guerrero: Veni Domine et noli tardare ✯ Canite tuba–Rorate caeli
Morales: Ecce virgo concipiet
Ceballos: Conditor alme siderum
The workshop will begin with coffee or tea from 10.30 am, with music starting at 11.00; we will finish around 5 pm.
Cost is £25 for members of EMF, or £30 for non-members. (If you are not already a member, EEMF’s annual subscription is only £6 if paid by Standing Order!)
Book directly via this form, or else full details should appear on the EEMF website by 21 October: https://forms.gle/TrpnkHxzAL6aMZFV8
