Share, repair, repurpose, repeat - Come along to our friendly repair cafe. Supported by Eco Hub Aber members and your donations.
As usual, please bring along 1 item per person to be fixed. More than 1 item is at the discretion of the repairers - depending on how busy they are.
It's helpful to ensure items are clean - especially toasters.
Please remember to bring bulbs, leads, CDs, records, etc. so that we can diagnose faults and test if an item has been repaired. We will endeavour to fix, or make suggestions and research replaceable items to make the fix possible. Where an item is not fixable we feed back to the manufacture through Repair Cafe Wales - all part of the right to repair movement.
If an item looks like it will take a long time (more than 30 mins) to fix, we will refer you elsewhere, to preserve time for others who have brought their items along.
HOW THE REPAIR CAFE WORKS
1. Go to the welcome desk when you arrive and fill in the paper form.
2. The welcome desk team will tell you where to go.
3. If you need to wait, theres refreshments available - hot and cold drinks and snacks and find out more about other environmental activities to get involved in
4. When the repairere is available, take your paned and sit with the repairer as they talk you through what they are doing to fix your item.
5. Please complete the form and hand it in once your item has been looked at, and hopefully fixed too, though remember noit all items are repairable - also if you have an electrical item make sure it's PAT tested before and after with the on-site PAT tester. Pleaase five us any other feedback.
6. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and, if you want to, leave a donation on the way out (donations help us pay for the room hire, food, tools and equipment).
Repairers will have a go at fixing wooden furniture, sharpening knives, mending small household electrical items, sewing up tears in clothes, darning, mending crockery and toys and fixing jewellery (but not watches).
We cannot look at white goods, safety equipment, microwaves or large TVs and reserve the right to refuse any item without explanation.
We welcome cake donations each month (especially gluten free), please list your ingredients to inform people with allergies and intolerances.
The venue is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible toilet.
We welcome new volunteer fixers and hosts.
