This Family Book Club event is an engaging and educational series designed for families with children ages 10 and up. The event features the award-winning historical fiction story "Freewater" by Amina Luqman-Dawson, which explores themes of enslavement and freedom. This event promises to be a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, enjoy a compelling story, and participate in enriching activities.
Participants will also be able to enjoy the historic Button Farm--Maryland’s only living history center depicting 19th-century plantation life. Situated on 40 acres, inside Seneca Creek State Park in Germantown, Maryland, Button Farm provides a safe and affirming space for people to gather, commune, and explore. Through our unique interactive experiences, visitors can enjoy close encounters with fam animals, quizzes and artifact identification, as well as scavenger hunt elements.
