In this Business Talk we find out more about Castle. With its headquarters in Hebburn, and offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Castle, which employs over 200 people, is one of the UK’s leading providers of all disciplines of construction, providing high-quality engineering and contracting services covering design, build, mechanical, public health, renewable and electrical engineering.

Last year the firm recorded a £130 million order book for 2024–2025, clear evidence the investment, the company has placed in the recruitment and retention of great people across its business, is being rewarded. Castle has an ambitious strategic growth plan which is based on the delivery of high quality, bespoke and innovative solutions to all the projects to which it is appointed.

Operations Director, Chris Meadowcroft, will outline current contracts underway in South Tyneside including the full refurbishment of a 50,000 sq ft industrial unit in Boldon and the relocation of South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School.

The £95m college relocation project is a partnership between Tyne Coast College and South Tyneside Council that will create a 15,000 sq. metre campus on King Street in South Shields. It will include the repair and upgrade of the listed building on Barrington Street, the conversion of the former BT building into student accommodation and the development of dedicated college facilities.

Castle was named SME of the Year at the 2023 Constructing Excellence North East Awards, affirming its reputation for quality and sustainability. Signatories of the South Tyneside Pledge, Castle has a clear commitment to localised recruitment and spend. We will hear more about the community and stakeholder engagement programme it will be delivering throughout the college contract and what this means for local suppliers and residents.
