Bushmeat presents Blackadelic Intifada
Bushmeat Sound & Charles Rahmat Woods
Man, Myth & Magick
Nostalgianoid & Michele Minakshi
In the mid-90s, Kwame Toure (f/k/a Stokely Carmichael) asked Black people to transform their anti-war movement into an anti-capitalist, anti-Zionist movement. “We must,” he said, “properly distinguish between Judaism and zionism." Nigerian musical revolutionary Fela Aníkúlápó Kútì instructed us that “music is the weapon of the future.” This music, then, is our weapon, sharpened like a flaming spear and aimed squarely at the heart of all structures that aid and abet white supremacy, patriarchy, settler-colonialism, capitalism, and, yes, zionism. The only futurism that can be responsibly embraced at the current time is a coming community founded in Justice – pure and undiluted. With our blackadelic tone science we are catalyzing a planetary migration out of an order regulated by greed and coercion into a social condition based on truth and justice. That is why our music sounds the way that it does. It must be about the unknown. YOU HAVE NEVER KNOWN JUSTICE.

Man, Myth & Magick is a collective of musicians, tone scientists and artists from the DC/MD/VA metro area dedicated to expanding minds and lifting spirits through original creative musical expression. MM&M excel in the transformative power of music. Music possesses the capacity to induce transformative changes in the brain, fostering neuroplasticity and reshaping neural networks. Music's influence extends throughout the lifespan, from prenatal development to the challenges of aging, impacting cognitive, emotional, physical, and social well-being. Music is sound energy; the vibration and frequency of sounds produce various energetic resonant effects on humans. The process of creating and listening to music is a spiritual practice. Music is Magick.
Bushmeat Sound (ethnomusicologist and sound artist Thomas Stanley) uses performance and curation as catalysts for a sonic community whose noise and music leap forward to frame, reframe, and accelerate our subjective experience of history. In 2014 Stanley published The Execution of Sun Ra, a critical meditation on the prognostications and post eschatology of a jazz icon who finds accelerating traction today, more than three decades after his earthly departure. Dr. Stanley has invested a lifetime into exploring the ramifications of Alter Destiny, Sun Ra’s unique construct for a habitable future.
Flute/saxophonist and recording artist Charles Rahmat Woods has provided exciting and insightful performances in the jazz idiom throughout the Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, and New York areas for over forty years. Born in Buffalo NY and a long time resident of Maryland, he has performed with an array of jazz artists including Roy Haynes, Helen Humes, Don Cherry, Jean-Paul Bourelly, and Tarika Blue. He has also performed with world music purveyors Conjunto Peligro, Bantu, Ron Warren, Dawn Avery, and Larry Mitchell. He is a Maryland State Arts Council touring artist.
As Nostalgianoid, Mike Holmes (they/them) presents glimpses and glitches of radical Black aesthetics. Over the past year, they've seamlessly incorporated their artistic identity as a multi-instrumentalist, improviser, and cultural archivist to become an essential radio and nightlife DJ amidst Asheville artists. Michele Minakshi aka DJ Chooch (she/they) has grown from her origins as a DJ in the Southeast circuit. Their recent live performance (utilizing methods from worlds of DJ, hardware, electroacoustic, etc.) has leaned towards Caribbean cultural preservation and exploring Indo-Guyanese rhythm traditions through sample-based music: a method they've described as "techtassa". DJ Chooch has also released on Hot Releases and Industrial Coast, and she is currently working out of Atlanta.
