Burnley Soapbox Challenge Workshop

Join us at Burnley College for a FREE practical Build Your Own Soapbox Workshop, designed for businesses, community groups, families and individuals interested in taking part in the first-ever Burnley Soapbox Challenge on Saturday 12 June 2027.

Scientists Mike Walton, Matt Maguire and Lew Wilde from a first-place winning Mission Improbable team will also be on hand to discuss their highly technical cart, including building the wheels by hand, which were tubeless to run faster!

You don’t need to be an engineer, mechanic or DIY expert - this session is all about helping you turn an idea into something that can actually make it to the start line!

Experts from Burnley College will talk you through the basics, including:

• How to get started with your soapbox design
• What materials you can use
• Important dimensions and event rules
• Safety considerations
• Practical tips for building on a realistic budget
• How to turn your soapbox into something that looks fantastic, too!

There’ll also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get advice on your own ideas.

Whether you're representing a local business looking for the ultimate team-building challenge, a community organisation, a group of friends, or simply fancy having a go, this is the perfect place to start.

The Burnley Soapbox Challenge will see homemade creations racing down Manchester Road in Burnley town centre, with all team entry fees going to local charities Healthier Heroes, Burnley Youth Theatre and Blaze Arts.

So bring your ideas, however ambitious they might be - and we'll help you work out how to get them on four wheels.

No previous building or engineering experience required.
