Bio:
Professor of Surgery and Anesthesiology Chief, Division of Burns C. Gillon Ward Endowed Chair in Burn Surgery Director, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Miami, FL Louis R Pizano received his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his general surgery training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY and fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, FL. After completion of his training, he was recruited to stay at the University of Miami in 2001 as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Associate Director of the fellowship program. Moving through the ranks, Dr. Pizano was appointed Chief of the Burn Service and Director of the UM/JM Burn Center in 2010, became the Director of the Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Surgery Fellowship Program in 2012 and has been promoted to Professor of Surgery with a secondary appointment as Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Pizano holds the C. Gillon Ward Endowed Chair in the Division of Burns and is certified by the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and is a valedictorian graduate of the executive MBA program at the University of Miami. Dr. Pizano’s research interests are varied and range from surgical education to trauma and burn care. He is a well published author with numerous book chapters and articles in the most highly esteemed peer reviewed journals in his scope of practice and has editorial responsibilities for some of the best journals in General Surgery, Trauma and Burn. He dedicates time to University of Miami and Jackson Health System Committees, community service activities and has received many teaching awards. He is a highly sought after speaker, a member of several of the most highly recognized and effective surgical societies in the United States, a Vice-Chair of the Florida Committee on Trauma and is the trauma consultant for the White House Medical Unit.
