Built on Zydeco: A Louisiana Music Documentary
📅 Wednesday, October 14
🕡 6:30 PM
📍 Dothan Opera House
🎟 Admission: $7
Presented by South Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Dothan Performing Arts.
More than a music documentary, Built on Zydeco explores the heart of a culture. Through the voices of musicians, families, and community leaders, the film reveals how Zydeco continues to thrive—not just as a genre of music, but as a living tradition rooted in work, language, family, and cultural responsibility.
Following the screening, stay for a live Q&A with the film's directors, Milton Arceneaux and Dustin Cravins.
Milton Arceneaux is an internationally recognized, award-winning photographer and filmmaker whose work is dedicated to preserving Creole culture, language, and identity in southwest Louisiana. His storytelling is rooted in community, trust, and lived experience.
Dustin Cravins is a cultural advocate, Zydeco scholar, and member of a prominent Creole family with deep ties to Louisiana's French-speaking and Zydeco communities. His knowledge and lifelong connection to the culture help ensure the story of Zydeco is told authentically through the voices of Creoles of Color.
Together with producer Robert Chevalier, the creative team has crafted a documentary that celebrates the people, traditions, and history that continue to shape one of America's most distinctive musical cultures.
This screening is part of the 50th Anniversary Season of the South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, one of the nation's longest-running programs connecting independent filmmakers with communities across the South.
🎟 Tickets are $7 and are available at DothanOperaHouse.com or at the Dothan Civic Center Box Office.
Experience the music, the history, and the culture of Louisiana through the people who continue to keep Zydeco alive—and stay afterward for a live conversation with the filmmakers.
