About this Event
Join the Built Environment Innovators Summer Camp!
The Built Environment Summer Camp is a one-week immersion into the technology driving modern civil engineering, architecture, and construction. Supported by a specialized remote sensing grant, this program provides students with the rare opportunity to operate small Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to solve real-world infrastructure challenges.
A Week of Innovation:
- Monday (Civil Engineering): Start with Site Mapping. Students will plan and execute their first Drone Flight Operations to capture high-resolution aerial imagery of a project site.
- Tuesday (Architectural Tech): Transition from 2D to 3D. Students use LiDAR Scanning and 3D Scanning tech to create digital twins of the built environment.
- Wednesday (Construction Management): Focus on the job site. Activities include Safety Briefs and Site Monitoring using drones to track project progress in a simulated management environment.
- Thursday (Energy & HVAC): Explore the invisible world. Using Thermal Briefs and Thermal Mapping, students will inspect buildings for energy efficiency and thermal signatures.
- Friday (Capstone & Awards): The week culminates in a final data synthesis and an Awards Ceremony celebrating the next generation of BE Innovators.
Learning Outcomes:
- Drone Proficiency: Master the basics of safe, legal sUAS flight operations.
- Data Processing: Move beyond the flight by learning Map Processing, CAD Modeling, and Energy Mapping in the lab.
- Real-World Application: Understand how remote sensing solves problems in disaster response, sustainability, and urban planning.
