About this Event
A thriving and dynamic life sciences industry, working effectively in partnership with the health and care and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSE) sector has the potential to bring significant gains for the future health and wealth of the nation. The life sciences industry consists of all organisations who research, develop and/or manufacture pharmaceutical and med-tech products for health purposes, of which there are nearly 7,000 in the UK.
The UK has a strong track-record as a leading centre for life sciences, and we saw first-hand the advantages of effective collaboration between the health and care sector and life sciences industry through the rapid development and rollout of Covid-19 vaccines and treatments. Other examples of life science developments being utilised in health and care are already established from IVF, to sophisticated diagnostic tests used to pinpoint diseases such as cancer more accurately. Many more will become available as technology continues to progress, so how can the health and care and VCSE sectors build life sciences partnerships to access and uptake developments in a way that is both sustainable, and supports the already overstretched health and care workforce?
This conference will explore the challenges, opportunities and potential that the sector faces by working in partnership with private bodies in life sciences, as well as benefits of implementation and adoption that are already being seen. We will look at:
- Examples where working with the life sciences industry has benefited ICSs, and how barriers were overcome
- The opportunities that developments in med-tech and diagnostics offer to benefit the health and care and VCSE sectors
- What it takes to build strong partnerships between the health and care sector and industry
- Overcoming fear and building trust so that health and care and VCSE sectors can work effectively with life sciences for positive patient outcomes
- What genomics, AI and diagnostics developments mean for the health and care workforce
- Futureproofing health and care for future advancements in life sciences
