About this Event

Course 4: An Entrepreneur’s Nightmare... Tax Season

Taxes can be daunting for any entrepreneur, but this course is designed to demystify the process and provide practical knowledge on managing business finances. Participants will learn about the tax obligations of entrepreneurs, how to organize their financial records, and strategies to minimize tax liabilities. This course will equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools to approach tax season with confidence and avoid common pitfalls.


Learning Objectives:

  • Understand Tax Obligations: Participants will learn about the tax requirements for entrepreneurs, including filing deadlines, deductions, and credits.
  • Organize Financial Records: Participants will develop systems for keeping accurate and organized financial records throughout the year.
  • Learn Tax Planning Strategies: Participants will explore strategies to reduce tax liabilities and maximize deductions.
  • Prepare for Tax Season: Participants will create a tax season checklist to ensure they are prepared and compliant when filing taxes.


This is a 5-part workshop series. Participants who attend all sessions will have the chance to enter the pitch competition in January.

About the presenter Kurt Faustin:

Kurt Faustin is a Father, Entrepreneur, Coach and Success Strategist. Kurt has spoken in front of over 50,000 people, working with organizations like Harvard University, Chase Bank and United Way; and is a former HuffPost and Forbes writer. Appointed by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Kurt is part of the city's first ever Black Men and Black Boy's Commission, and recently selected by Color Magazine’s 40 under 40 Power List, his focus is on bridging the gap between mental health and performance; with an emphasis on emotional intelligence, goal setting and stress management. As a certified ​Brain Based Coach from the NeuroLeadership Institute, Kurt discovered his own science-backed philosophy and principles to improve performance, while empowering one to make a permanent change within their mindset.

Advance registration is preferred for all Ed Portal programs and events. Walk-in attendees may not be admitted.

Parking is limited around the Ed Portal so we recommend taking public transportation.

Public transportation options:

We are about a 15-20 minute walk from the Red Line Harvard Square station or Green Line -B Harvard Avenue station.

Several MBTA buses also stop near the intersection of North Harvard Street and Western Avenue: #66, #86, #70.

Parking information:

If you choose to drive to the Ed Portal please be prepared to utilize the two-hour on-street parking surrounding the Ed Portal or to park at Artesani Park and walk 10-12 minutes along Western Avenue to arrive at the Ed Portal. A limited number of parking spaces are available in the rear of the Ed Portal building on a first come, first serve basis. You may only use parking spaces in the rear of the Ed Portal building outlined in orange paint.

Stay home if you are sick, have any Covid-19 symptoms or have tested positive for COVID in the last 10 days.
