Join us Saturday April 11 from 10 AM to 3 PM at Oakwood Cemetery for the launch of our new brochures and our annual Spring walking tour hosted by our friends group, Save Austin’s Cemeteries (SAC)! Guided tours throughout each section of the cemetery will run about 20-25 minutes. There will be four different tours guests can take where they can explore and learn about architecture, architects, and engineers who built the city of Austin from the ground up. Featured stops include preservationist Ima Hogg and Mary Francis Freeman Baylor, structural engineer Captain Percy Pennybacker, master architect Abner Cook, and many more! Architecture and funerary art has changed drastically over time, and Oakwood is the perfect place to see that change! From the Victorian era of lavish graves all the way through to modern times, Oakwood Cemetery has it all!
Event kicks off at 11 AM with guest speakers discussing how architects and engineers have influenced the foundation of this city and the state of Texas. Event is free to the public and free parking is available.
