Get your hands (and feet!) muddy and learn an ancient building skill. In this one-day workshop you’ll help build a real wood-fired cob oven at our pavilion, using local clay, sand, and straw. You’ll leave knowing how to build one in your own backyard.
You will join veteran oven builder Curtis Millsap from Millsap Farm in Springfield area, Missouri. He has multiple ovens which they use for on farm pizza night and bread baking, and has helped build additional ones across the country.
You’ll learn:
siting and base design · insulation and why it matters · testing your own soil for clay · mixing cob · building the sand form · shaping the dome and door · drying, curing, and first fires
Included: all materials, a farm-fresh lunch, and take-home build notes
Bring: clothes you don’t mind ruining, a change of clothes, sun/rain layers. We’ll be stomping mud barefoot (or in boots, your call).
No experience needed. Limited to 12–15 people.
