About this Event

Discover more about chalk stream management and how you can get involved!

This evening of discussions will focus on sharing the results from two recent citizen science research projects:

We will be joined by Erin Doyle from Cranfield University who will share the outcomes from her PhD research into using biofilms to detect river pollution, including data collected by citizen scientists on the Chess and Misbourne.

We will be sharing the results of our first redd surveys on the Chess, and be joined by Martin van Heerden from the Environment Agency to discuss the regional picture of brown trout breeding populations.

This event is run by the Chilterns Chalk Streams Project as part of the River Chess Smarter Water Catchment partnership. It is free and open to everyone to come along to, whether or not you have been involved with any citizen science activities before!

What to expect:

Meeting at 6.30pm at the White Hill Centre we will have a series of presentations. There will also be light refreshments and a chance to chat.

The line up of speakers will include:

"Biofilm Research: Using Biofilms to Monitor Pollution Events" - Erin Doyle, Cranfield University

"Chess Redd Survey Results" - Iona McMillan, Citizen Science Coordinator, Chilterns Chalk Streams Project and Paul Jennings, River Chess Association

"Hertfordshire and London Redd Survey Results" - Martin Von Heerden, Environment Agency
