There She Is is a multidisciplinary performance exploring selfhood through film, movement, music, and conversation.
Presented by Brown But BLACK, this performance invites you into a season of creative becoming through performance art. Emerging from the lived experience of King Empress—writer, dancer, and co-founder of Brown But BLACK—this piece traces a period in which writer's block interrupted language, but never imagination.
Situated within the tension of listening to one's inner voice while navigating narrow ideas of womanhood, There She Is explores the relationship between sensuality and agency.
More than a performance, There She Is is a meditation on what it means for Black women to cultivate a more intimate relationship with themselves through their bodies while navigating a world that has historically positioned those bodies as sites of consumption rather than homes of autonomy.
