Broward County Summer 2026 Trades Meeting
About this Event
Come and participate in our quarterly Broward County Building Trades meetings where we discuss all things trades in Broward County.
The agenda for this meeting will include:
1. Deborah Nunez- Sr. Management Analyst Supervisor for CareerSource Broward – who will present on their veteran services programs to the trades committee to strengthen collaboration with employers in high-demand skilled trades. This presentation will highlight how our program connects qualified veterans to industry needs while offering supportive services and available incentives to employers. Our goal is to expand employment pathways for veterans while supporting the workforce priorities of the county’s trades sector.
2. Michael Smith- Training Director of South Florida Operating Engineers Local 487- who will present on the different types of work that the Operating Engineers do (operating cranes, heavy equipment, mechanics & welding). We currently have 3 separate programs with our apprenticeship (pre-apprenticeship, operating, & mechanics). We can upskill ourselves to better and higher paying positions.
3. Jerry Calvert – Director of Career Training Initiatives for Junior Achievement – who will present on the new County Water Management success with recent JA graduates in their new water management program and other JA Pre-Apprenticeship Updates.
4.Maribel Feliciano, Director of the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) will be providing an update on workforce development and apprenticeship programs.
