About this Event

Welcome to this British Museum Bible Tour! Join us for a fascinating journey through ancient Assyria, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Babylon and Persia as we explore the biblical artifacts housed in this iconic institution. The British Museum is one of the great museums of the world, containing within it one of the most extensive collections of items relating to the Bible. This eye-opening tour will illuminate for us the background culture of biblical events and transport us into the world of the Bible. Along the way, we’ll see how archaeology gives strong support to the Bible's historical record. This is a not-to-be-missed experience, that will enrich your understanding of the Bible.

The tour is led by Charlie Ward, who has been leading tours of the British Museum for almost 20 years. He is a church minister and the director of the South West Gospel Partnership Ministry Training Course, teaching on Biblical archaeology, Biblical Hebrew, Bible background and history, along with many other subjects.

Included with the tour is an extensive 30 page colour handout, which will enable you to revisit and remember what we have seen.

The tour is limited to a maximum group size of 15 people, enabling the group to engage with the tour leader and ask questions.

British Museum Bible Tour
Host: Charlie Ward

Info: We will meet outside the back entrance to the British Museum on Montague Place at 10.30am. This is the entrance for groups and there is a group booking reservation for this tour. Once we have entered, there is time to drop off bags/coats at the cloakroom or visit the toilets, before the tour starts at 10.50am. We begin with ancient Assyria in rooms 6-10. There's a 40 minute break for lunch from about 12.30pm. From 1.10pm we will then be exploring ancient Egypt in room 4, before heading upstairs to understand Abraham's origins in Mesopotamia, Room 56. There's another 20 minute break from 2.30pm, before we complete our tour, stopping off in Israel, Babylon and Persia (Rooms 57, 55 & 52). It's an in-depth tour, which will enable you to thoroughly explore these ancient artifacts and their connection with the text of the Bible.
