About this Event
NB: This is a free in person training day. One booking per organisation/firm.
You should only book if:
i) You are a practising solicitor or barrister working at an organisation/firm
ii) You are able to commit to attend session in person from 10.00-16.30 (registration and refreshments from 9:45am).
iii) If you book and are unable to attend your firm/organisation will make a donation of £150 towards our children's hardship funds.
Who is this course for? For practising solicitors and barristers only.
Topics covered:
Basic knowledge of law, policy and practice in this area will be assumed.
i) The course will cover the background to the British Nationality Act 1981 concerning British citizenship as this applies to the rights of children to that citizenship.
ii) General children citizenship matters and registration by entitlement.
iii) General children citizenship matters and registration by discretion.
iv) Good character requirement in children and young adults' citizenship claims.
v) Application process, evidence and remedy.
Method of delivery: : Attendees are expected to attend this session in person only. The workshop will not be recorded. Attendees will be sent course notes,reference material and casestudies before course delivery date.
About the Organiser: The Project for the Registration of Children as British Citizens (PRCBC) is the first and only organisation to focus directly on children and young adults and their right to British citizenship. Many children and young adults are eligible to register as British citizens, but do not do so for various reasons. We aim to raise awareness of registration and the importance of citizenship, as well as to support and increase the number of children and young adults who register as British citizens.
Speakers:
Valdez-Symonds (PRCBC solicitor). Solange is an experienced practising solicitor and litigator. She is a Law Society accredited at Level 3.
is PRCBC volunteer legal researcher. He is a non-practising barrister. He is a Law Society accredited at Level 2.
How much is the course? Attendance is free but attendees are encouraged to make a donation towards PRCBC's children's hardship fund.
