Featuring an eclectic display of Mississippi’s original music, two of the region’s most celebrated singer-songwriters will be supporting newcomer Brandon Kenyon in his second all-original show, debuting at the renowned Government Street Grocery.While already being prolific as a solo artist, Emily Smith is a songwriter well known for her membership in one of Mississippi’s all-time favorite indie acts - the late Rosco Bandana - and for her current membership in Della Memoria, where she delivers intricate fingerstyle guitar underneath her siren-like voice.
Shelby Kemp has been the frontman and writer for several notable acts - including the late Midnight Revel, Royal Horses, The Lucky Strokes, and his newest act (which debuted The Grocery earlier this month) - Shelby Kemp and the Galbraith Sisters. Known for his electric guitar prowess and gritty, powerful southern voice, he more rarely is also known to don an acoustic and captivate an audience as a solo artist.
Brandon Kenyon is a trumpet player well known for his work with Royal Horses, Flying Raccoon Suit, and formerly with Blackwater Brass, where he began singing on stage as a frontman. Over the last 4-5 years, he began performing as a solo artist and with small ensembles on acoustic guitar. Brandon’s original writing has been in the works for much of this time, and he’s now honed this craft to the point of presentation. His originals are thoughtful and poignant, featuring a soft yet soulful vocal delivery and guitar work that is rich in harmony and fingerstyle texture.
