Join us for a day filled with Irish cultural workshops at the Mary C O'Keefe Cultural Arts Center. Dive into the rich traditions of Ireland through interactive sessions on Irish dance, music, and language.

Workshop Schedule

All workshops are taught by Niall O'Leary. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Niall is a world reknowned Irish musician, Irish dance teacher and adjudicator, and World champion Irish dancer.

SATURDAY

2:00 PM Irish Rhythms

Explore the art of making music without instruments—first with just two spoons, then with your hands, feet, and body. Discover basic rhythms, syncopation, and creative sounds that bring Irish tunes to life. Bring two large metal spoons with you!

3:00 PM Introduction to Sean Nós Dancing

Step into the old style tradition of Ireland’s west coast: relaxed, low-to-the-floor movements that capture the spirit of dancing in the kitchen. A laid back contrast to the formal world of competition dancing.

4:00 PM Irish Singing & Mouth Music

Experience two traditional styles of Irish singing: unaccompanied ballads in English, and playful “mouth music” using nonsense syllables. Learn phrasing, breathing, and dialect touches that give the songs their authentic character.

SUNDAY

9:00 AM Irish Tune Workshop

Musicians are invited to bring their instrument(s) and dive into the essentials of authentic Irish style—phrasing, ornamentation, and subtle variations that make a tune truly sing.

10:00 AM Irish Language

Pick up useful Gaelic phrases (“as Gaeilge”), Ireland’s native tongue, and enjoy a fun introduction to the sound and rhythm of the language.

11:00 AM Ceili Dancing for Beginners of All Ages and Abilities

Get everyone on the floor for lively, social group dances from Ireland. No fancy footwork required—the focus is on energy, laughter, and moving together to the music.
