In this deeply personal and investigative memoir, journalist Anna Mehler Paperny explores her lived experience with suicidal thoughts while examining the medical, cultural, and systemic ways we understand mental illness. The book is honest, compassionate, and unflinching. It speaks to the complexity of wanting relief from pain rather than wanting life to end, and it challenges the shame and silence surrounding these thoughts.

March is Self Harm Awareness Month, and our discussion will center on gentler ways of coping.
We’ll talk about alternatives to self harm, how to recognize urges without judging ourselves, and how to treat our pain with care instead of punishment.
This is about softness. About slowing down. About learning how to stay with ourselves when things hurt.
✨ You do NOT need to read the book to attend.
This is both a book club and a grief support group. You are welcome whether you’ve read every page, skimmed a chapter, or just need a place to breathe.
You are not broken for feeling this way.
You are not weak for needing support.
