BOUFFON – BAD, BOLD AND BRILLIANT (Level 1 & 2) lead by Jaime Mears
23rd - 29th of October 2026
Start your Bouffon journey – or dive deeper into the wild, provocative, and playful world of Bouffon. This is a unique opportunity to join either a 3-day weekend workshop (Level 1) or extend your experience into a full 7-day intensive (Level 1 + 2) if you’re ready to fully embrace the bold madness of Bouffon.
Workshop Overview
In this workshop, we explore the darker cousin of the clown – the hidden, “undesirable” parts of ourselves that often sit outside our social identity. We will visit the Bouffon, where these aspects resurface to disrupt, expose, and provoke.
Bouffon mocks everything. It challenges norms, reveals hypocrisy, and invites us to laugh at what we usually hide – starting with ourselves.
Level 1
Create a body mask and explore the Bouffon gang. Through play, transformation, and group work, you’ll discover the joy, mischief, and physical language of Bouffon.
Level 2
Dive deeper into the madness. Develop your body mask further, create small scenes, and present work to each other. Through more games and exploration, you’ll deepen your understanding of the raw and profound nature of Bouffon.
Working with such a heightened physical awareness and expression, as well as the size and energy required for Bouffon to work, provides any artist with a beautiful challenge to find something absolutely outside the realms of what they know.

– Hilary Chaplin, Clown & Performer (NY)
