In this introductory workshop you will
-Discover nature’s hidden sources of colour using millennia-old eco dyeing and botanical printing techniques
If you have always wanted to try your hand at bush dyeing then this is the workshop for you. Indigenous peoples have been carrying out the practice of eco dyeing for thousands of years the results are light fast
This eco dyeing workshop will provide you with:
* Connection to the natural environment
* Sustainable practices through the use of traditional dyeing methods using natural and found objects
* Experimentation with different fabrics and using different plant materials, recycled metals and including readily available native plants like eucalyptus
And food waste like onion skin
All materials you’ll need are provided such as -
-swatches in various fabrics of cellulose and protein fibres plus a silk scarf
-various papers to experiment with
Also there may be a possibility for ;
* The opportunity to dye a garment or two of your choice that you source and bring and experiment with your own fabric if preferred
* Please note that all fabrics should be boiled or hot pre washed in sodium carbonate (washing soda) only to remove any soap oil or chemical residue, Collect any (op shop is best) white or light coloured natural fabrics 100% silk or Wool will render the best Results.
-Otherwise pure cotton or linen works as well but you will need at least a week to prep and cure the fabric before hand for this.
