Botanical Dyeing Witchery with Katie Vadasz + Aki Yoshie

Workshop Location: SCRAP, 141 Industrial St #1, San Francisco

Workshop Description

In an environment dominated by synthetic fibers and dyes, botanical prints offer an ecological way to express creativity and make something beautiful. Extracting colors from plants has been practiced for centuries, and the finished product is known to withhold properties of the plant itself. Join us in imbuing cloth with intention and learning about some of the powers of plants endemic to the San Francisco Bay Area. Participants will design and eco-print on natural fabric using a selection of plants provided. People are welcome to bring their own plants as well.

About the Artists

Akiha (Aki) Yoshie is a weaver, papermaker, and natural dyer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. They graduated from California College of the Arts in May 2026 in the Individualized program, minoring in Ecological Practices. She has exhibited her work at places such as Kala Art Institute, Minnesota Street Project, and the Novack Gallery. Throughout her art career, Aki has been vending at events including the California College of the Arts - Arts and Crafts Fair, Fillmore Art Walk SF Fair, and SmallWorks Gallery Quilting - a Verb Show. They taught sustainable science sewing class with Maker Studio Kidz in San Francisco and continues to teach ecologically mindful fiber arts all around the Bay Area to bridge the connection of people and nature.

Katie Vadasz is a weaver, natural dyer, spinner, and sewer based in the Bay Area of California. She’s received a BFA in Individualized Studies from California College of the Arts with a minor in Ecological Practices. She has worked in community outreach and arts education for Sonoma Community Center. Her work emphasizes the unseen labor and costs involved in textile production, both to the maker and the environment.
