Borboro: Japanese Mending with Dorothy Yuki

Workshop Description

Boroboro is a Japanese term for something that needs mending. We are going to take this idea to another step by making a lovely bag using repurposed fabrics. You will learn traditional boro sewing techniques by hand (and machine) at the SCRAP workshop. All materials will be supplied by SCRAP but if you have your own fabrics and fabric scissors you want to use, please bring them to the workshop. All fabrics must be washed and ready to use.

About the Artist

A diverse, eclectic Bay Area artist, Dorothy Yuki works in textiles, calligraphy, bookmaking, mail-art, and sketching; with fabric, metal, cut paper, pen & ink, and even repurposed materials. In her roles of artist, teacher and mentor, she is a very active participant in her community. Dorothy has shown her work at MMOCA’s Altered Book Show, Kalligraphia at the San Francisco Main Library, Ruth’s Table Retrospective, and at Arc for SCRAP-SF.
