Bookbinding Workshop - Create a Coptic Bound Sketchbook

Description: Coptic binding is a sewn binding that produces a lovely exposed stitched spine. It allows books to open flat and is a great choice for making sketchbooks or journals. Join in for a fun half day workshop and learn the single needle coptic binding stitch. We will be repurposing a new 140 cold press watercolor pad into a functional and beautifully bound sketchbook. This heavy weight paper is perfect for sketching or painting. The workshop includes: preparation of signatures to bind, measuring, alignment, punching, tension and technique. The class is in a lovely, natural lit community center in South East Calgary.

Audience: 14+ and no experience required (teen participation will be considered if accompanied by a paid adult, please inquire)

Supplies: All consumable materials - paper, thread etc. are included in the workshop fee. Participants are required to bring a pencil, eraser and a 30cm ruler. All other materials needed will be available for class use during the course.

Cost: $100

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Refunds are permissable up to one week before the class begins. No refunds will be issued after this point. A refund will be issued to participants if the workshop is cancelled by the workshop coordinator due to insufficient enrollment, extreme weather conditions etc. Workshops may be cancelled prior to the start date and participants will be notified via email and/or phone, and a full refund will be processed.

Artist Biography:Artist Biography: Roberta is a passionate bookbinder, printmaker and watercolor artist who has been teaching for over 15 years. She taught bookbinding for five years through the Alberta University of the Arts Extended Studies program as well as private workshops. She has a BFA from the University of Calgary in Printmaking and also teaches watercolor and nature journaling.
