Book talk: Days of Love and Rage
About this Event
Based on nearly a decade of reporting and over 2,000 interviews, Days of Love and Rage reconstructs the Syrian revolution through the lives of ordinary people navigating repression and upheaval. Through intimate portraits—a young scholar, a woman drawn into resistance, and a struggling shopkeeper—Gopal traces the journey from everyday aspirations to political awakening, activism, and survival. Alongside violence and loss, these stories are also shaped by love, family, and hope.
Gopal is one of the few journalists to have spent extended periods reporting from within insurgent-controlled areas, including deep on-the-ground reporting in Taliban-held regions of Afghanistan. His work is defined by unusual access, immersion, and a commitment to documenting the lives of those most often excluded from historical narratives. Drawing on interviews, social media archives, and testimony from regime defectors, he reconstructs both the revolution and the inner workings of the Assad regime with remarkable depth and precision.
At a time of rising authoritarianism worldwide, Days of Love and Rage offers urgent insight into the patterns of oppression—and the courage it takes to resist them. Both haunting and inspiring, it is essential reading for understanding the forces shaping our present global moment.
