Join us at The Canopi to celebrate the launch of The Book of Cardiff, an explorative anthology of Welsh fiction
About this Event

Join us for the launch of , an anthology of Cardiff fiction that celebrates, explores and interrogates the Welsh capital. The latest anthology in Comma Press' 'Reading the City' series, The Book of Cardiff brings together Cardiff's most celebrated writers - such as Dannie Abse, Leonora Brito, Deborah Kay Davies - alongside new and emerging literary talent.

This event will begin with readings from the anthology, followed by a discussion with the author and editors, and an audience Q+A. So come along, grab a beer and settle in for an evening of readings and discussion about Cardiff.

The book will be on sale during the event, or you can purchase it in advance here.

Authors will be available for signings after the Q+A, and the bar will remain open until 9.30pm for mingling and celebration.

About the Book

A snowball fight between rival schools, divided by language, melts into a genuine offer of support for a family of newcomers...

A homeless man recalls how he inherited his grandmother’s ability to smell lies, only to tell his biggest fib right in front of her...

An embattled sweetshop owner plots revenge on a mischievous schoolboy – one who might be familiar to us all…

As the stories in this anthology demonstrate, the small but mighty capital of Wales has a lot to boast about: a vibrant independent music scene, an unbreakable community spirit, and a knack for storytelling. But perhaps it’s the city’s sense of defiance that comes closest to defining the ‘Cardiffian’.

Whether in the playgrounds of Splott, the shop-fronts of Llandaff, or the bars of Butetown, we meet streetwise characters who upend our expectations: forgiving those who’ve wronged them, flouting conventions, and offering warmth where none was expected.
