About this Event
Join us in welcoming Helen Comerford to Waterstones Cardiff to celebrate the publication of her new book The Cafe at the End of the World! Helen will be talking to Ash Bond, author of the Peregrine Quinn series.
THE END IS BREWING...Love, lattes, and world-ending drama – life just got a lot less cosy for Lydie, teenage daughter of Death. The cosy romcom/fantasy obsession you didn’t know you needed.Come for the cinnamon rolls, stay for the apocalypse.Lydie, the daughter of Death, a retired Rider of the Apocalypse, is obsessed with ‘cosy’; cosy books, cosy job in the family café, cosy low-drama life. But then secretive, attractive, and above all annoying, Kai, bursts into the café in a flurry of autumn leaves, with secrets that threaten to change everything.Big, un-cosy things are coming for Lydie whether she likes it or not, and working with Kai might be the only way to protect her town. Provided she doesn't fall for him first...
Helen Comerford is an author and creative facilitator. She writes cosy, magical and action-packed tales, with diverse casts of characters, for children and young adults.Helen spent most of her working life in the theatre as a stage manager, walking and talking very quietly backstage in venues around the country. Her time working at Shakespeare’s Globe, and with the Emma Rice Theatre Company, cemented her love of theatre and allowed her to travel around the world looking for stories. After squeezing her writing into days off and train journeys, Helen left the touring life to settle in South Wales and dedicate herself to writing joyful and empowering books. Her young adult debut The Love Interest was nominated for the Carnegie medal for writing and long listed for the Diverse Book Award and the Brandford Boase Award. She's excited to be delving into a new, cosy, but pretty unsettling world with The Cafe at the End of the World. When she’s not writing, you can find her hiking around the Welsh countryside with her dog, Cocoa.
