Book Launch: What is Political Theology?

Co-authors Professor Vincent Lloyd (Villanova University) and Professor Luke Bretherton (University of Oxford) present their book What is Political Theology? (Columbia University Press).


Details:

  • Date: Thursday 21st May 2026
  • Time: 16.00-17.45, followed by a canapé reception.
  • Venue: Sir Michael Dummett Lecture Theatre, Christ Church, Oxford

Format: Professor Luke Bretherton will introduce the book, followed by a lecture from Vincent Lloyd based on his contribution. Attendees are invited to join the authors afterwards at the reception to reflect on the discussion.

Reading group: Ahead of the book launch, Dr Sam Tranter (McDonald Postdoctoral Fellow) will lead a reading group on the book.


  • Thursday 7th May, 11am-12noon (discussing Intro & Chapter 1)
  • Thursday 21st May, 11am-12noon (discussing Chapters 2, 3, 4)
