Join us at The Well Red Damsel to watch the short film "Book Cute" with the filmmakers, Emily Claibourne and Hilary Williams.
The doors open at 6pm. The screening will begin at 6:30 PM and will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with the filmmakers! You will have the opportunity to learn more about the inspiration behind the film and the creative process that brought it to life.
Popcorn and light refreshmants will be provided!
About Book Cute:
Armed with nothing but peer pressure and panic, Sam finally works up the courage to talk to her crush, Dana—the impossibly cute owner of her favorite bookstore. What Sam doesn’t realize is that Dana likes her too. Their instant chemistry sparks something real, but a small misunderstanding threatens to derail their shot at love.
Director's Note:
Too often, queer stories are only told when they’re framed as a gimmick—or used as a quick way to build an audience, only to end with the character (or the show itself) being discarded. But we are not gimmicks, and we are not rating bait. We exist in every kind of story—and deserve to be seen that way. Book Cute doesn’t have to be told by queer voices, but I believe we bring it to life with an authenticity and resonance that can’t be faked. For me, this film is a love letter to my younger self, who longed for representation on screen and never stopped imagining what it might feel like to finally see it.
