The fourth annual Bonsai in the Garden is an eventful day hosted at Northern Plains Botanic Garden! Join us on Saturday, August 29th from 10:00AM-4:00PM at the historic Yunker Farm Park & NPBGS grounds (1211 28th Avenue N, Fargo 58102).

Whether you're a bonsai beginner, accomplished artisan, or just an interested bystander, come and enjoy a variety of activities surrounding this ancient Japanese art. This event features a mixture of both free and paid experiences; see below for agenda and more detail. A portion of proceeds from this event benefit local artisans and the growth of Northern Plains Botanic Garden Society.
AGENDA
ALL DAY - 10:00AM-4:00PM
• Bonsai Display (FREE, Historic Yunker Farmhouse): This is an opportunity to view examples of fine bonsai specimens created and displayed by local, talented Artisans. An attendant will be present to answer questions.
• This & That Sale (Tent): An assortment of new and used bonsai tools, trees, artwork, pots, and more will be available for purchase. Some NPBGS-made items like jams, jellies, and juices may also be available.
• Explore Northern Plains Botanic Gardens (FREE, Outdoors): Enjoy a stroll through NPBGS' newly improved Japanese Garden and other unique areas like the Children's Garden, Woodland Garden, Edible Forest, and more.

10:00AM-11:00AM
• Beginner Workshop ($25, NPBGS Greenhouse): Artisan Audrey Gilbraith will guide beginners on the fundamentals of bonsai. Cost is $25 per person and includes a 4" pot, ficus tree, accessories, and use of tools. This workshop is limited to 20 participants; tickets are available for purchase on event day.

11:30AM-12:30PM
• Advanced Workshop (NPBGS Greenhouse): Artisan Cody Schick will demonstrate the processes of wiring, pruning, clipping and defoliation on natural stock. This is an informal demonstration that invites your questions as the process proceeds.

1:00PM-4:00PM
• Ceramic Demonstration (FREE, Under the Tent): Ceramist Wil Shynkaruk demonstrates the use of a potter's wheel to create a variety of pots. Pots will also be available for purchase.
• Kintsugi Demonstration (FREE, Under the Tent): Artist Vern Hunter will describe the ancient Japanese art of "golden joinery" used to repair broken ceramics.
