Blue Mountains World Kangaroo Day Fair

On the 24th October 2026, BMWKD 26 - 9:30am to 12 noon for kids and 1:45pm for public - we will be holding a Kangaroo Inspired Fair free to attend. This is aimed at the public especially including children of all ages. Jacinta Tobin (Dharug) is performing Welcome to Country for us. Mark Pearson will be MCing the event for us. The theme of this event is 'Kangaroo and First Nations People (FNP)' and 'Improving Kangaroo habitat from FNP perspective'
For the children, we are hoping to have...
1. Face painting. 2. Kangaroo cut out and kangaroo mask painting. 3. Signs and free stickers 4. craft like pouch aprons 5. seedlings of native grasses that kangaroos eat. 6. videos, stories, music, dancing. 7. Native animal games and displays to buy from buttonworks. 8. Photos of kangaroos to buy or win and 9. Have your photo taken as a yuin kangaroo.
For the public, we are hoping to have...
1. Dr Jacinta Tobin talking about three things over the morning i. FNP and kangaroos, ii. What Care of Country means to all of us iii. the history and aims of Cool Burns. 2. Mark Pearson talking about the submission of the Yuin declaration on kangaroos to nsw parliament. 3. Videos e.g. WKD photo competition, Kangaroo dance and cool burn at Glenbrook lagoon. 4. Stalls to buy kangaroo related goods e.g. buttonworks and conservation - native grass seedlings that kangaroos eat & medicine 5. Stall/Displays on how to make your property kangaroo safe by Tracy and Teanghi and more 6. Coffee van and food carts outside. 7. Primary and secondary school kids prize giving.
In the afternoon from 2pm to 4pm, we will have a fundraiser for all independent kangaroo rescuers and carers. We have not finalised what this will look like yet.
