Please join us at 10 AM on Saturday April 4th in the church for the Blessing of Easter Baskets. The blessing of food for the first meal of Easter is a beloved tradition that has been observed for centuries. We invite you to bring a basket containing a sampling of your Easter foods to be blessed on Holy Saturday. Traditionally, these baskets are lined with white linen or lace and filled with items that carry deep symbolic meaning:
- Eggs: Symbolize life and Christ’s Resurrection.
- Bread: Represents Jesus as the Bread of Life.
- Lamb Butter: Represents Christ as the Lamb of God.
- Salt: Represents purification.
- Horseradish: Symbolizes the bitter sacrifice of Christ.
- Meats: Symbolize great joy and abundance.
During the service, the Priest will offer prayers specifically for these foods and sprinkle the baskets with Holy Water. To honor the tradition, the blessed food remains untouched until Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, when it is shared among family and friends to break the Lenten fast and celebrate the Resurrection.
We look forward to sharing this meaningful tradition with you.
