Blessing and Dedication of the Calvary Icons Altarpiece
About this Event
Please join us to celebrate the completion of The Calvary Icons Project altarpiece honoring the resilient legacy of Charleston’s Historic Calvary Episcopal Church. The altarpiece grows from two years of research into study works and finally into the completed carving, through reflection and prayer. It was conceived as a contemporary sacred work to honor the church’s history while opening space for renewed contemplation and participation, extending the relationship between artwork, place, and congregation. The image speaks to hope, reconciliation, and divine presence within a living community of worship. The completed altarpiece creates a focal point where history, devotion, and communal memory meet in a single sacred form to carry Calvary’s legacy forward.
The celebration begins at 11 am with a church liturgy including a blessing and dedication of the altarpiece, followed by a reception lunch in the parish hall with music by Charlton Singleton.
