Years after walking the halls of Case High School together, two pioneers of Midwest hip-hop are coming home.**
On November 21st at McAuliffe’s Pub, Racine will witness something that hasn’t happened in over seven years: BLAX performing professionally in his hometown. But this isn’t just any show—it’s a full-circle moment featuring two Class of ’99 alumni who left Racine and built something extraordinary.
Two kids from Racine, two very different paths, one triumphant return
BLAX stayed close to home, becoming a founding father of the Milwaukee and Racine hip-hop landscape. The 2018 Wisconsin Area Music Industry Award winner (Best Rap/Hip Hop) has been featured in Fader Magazine, The Source, and Respect Magazine. His experimental, conscious approach to hip-hop earned him opportunities with New York’s Social MisFits/Next Records and established him as one of Wisconsin’s most respected artists. Fresh off releasing his first-ever vinyl album, BLAXPLOITATION (September 2024), BLAX is riding a wave of creative momentum that has critics calling him one of the most versatile lyricists in the region.
RMLLW2LLZ took a different route—military service in the Air Force, then settling in Louisville, Kentucky, where he became a cornerstone of that city’s thriving hip-hop renaissance. He founded Kr8vN8vs Records in 2017, creating an artist-friendly independent label that now represents a diverse roster of talent. Every Tuesday night, you can hear him hosting “I and Eye Radio” on 97.1 FM WXOX Louisville, championing independent artists. Known for his socially conscious lyrics and smooth baritone flow, RMLLW2LLZ has opened for hip-hop legends including KRS-One, Big Boi (OutKast), Raekwon (Wu-Tang Clan), Rakim, and Warren G. His politically charged music addresses racism, social justice, and everyday struggles with unflinching honesty.
The Dreamweaverz connection: Summer 2024’s Midwest hip-hop moment
This homecoming builds on something special. Summer 2024, BLAX and RMLLW2LLZ embarked on the Dreamweaverz Tour—a massive 10-city journey through Green Bay, Minneapolis, Madison, Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Nashville. The tour connected regional hip-hop scenes and showcased the natural chemistry between two artists who share Wisconsin roots and conscious, authentic approaches to their craft. With DJ DS (RMLLW2LLZ’s Louisville collaborator since 2012) providing the beats, the tour earned rave reviews and left audiences wanting more.
That “more” is happening right here, right now, in the city where it all began.
Why this matters to Racine?
McAuliffe’s Pub has been Racine’s home for live original music for over 20 years, hosting countless artists in its intimate 150-capacity space. But on November 21st, it becomes something more—a homecoming stage for two artists who prove that Racine kids can build national careers without compromising their artistic integrity or forgetting where they came from.
This is BLAX’s first professional performance in Racine in over seven years. Let that sink in. One of the founding fathers of our regional hip-hop scene is finally bringing that energy back home, and he’s bringing one of Louisville’s most respected independent artists with him—who also happens to be from right here.
For those who graduated with them in ’99:
Remember when hip-hop from Racine seemed impossible? Your classmates proved otherwise.
For the younger generation:
This is what happens when you stay true to your vision and put in the work. BLAX built an award-winning career in Milwaukee while honoring his Racine roots. RMLLW2LLZ went to Louisville and created his own record label, his own radio platform, his own path.
For longtime hip-hop heads:
You’re getting two artists at the peak of their powers. BLAX just released his first vinyl album. RMLLW2LLZ has shared stages with some of the greatest emcees in hip-hop history. Both are representing conscious, authentic hip-hop in an era that desperately needs it.
For new fans:
This is your chance to experience two of the Midwest’s most respected underground artists in one of the most intimate venues you’ll ever see them perform. 150-capacity means there’s no hiding in the back—you’re part of this moment.
What to expect
Expect socially conscious bars over boom-bap beats. Expect stories about the journey from Racine to the world and back. Expect DJ DS bringing Louisville energy to Wisconsin. Expect two artists who’ve opened for legends and built their own legacies to remind Racine why hip-hop matters.
Expect bars about struggle and triumph, about staying true to yourself, about building something from nothing. Expect the experimental edge of BLAX’s recent work and the political fire of RMLLW2LLZ’s truth-telling. Expect to witness history in the making at McAuliffe’s—the kind of intimate show that people talk about for years.
