About this Event

Join us for the second annual BLAK Women In Agriculture event at Martha’s Table in Washington, D.C., where we celebrate the incredible contributions of Black women in farming, gardening, and agriculture. Curated by KIMANI Anku, this event is deeply personal, created to honor his great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother, who inspired his journey as a gardener, farmer, and beekeeper.

This year’s theme, "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations," brings together a powerful panel of Black women farmers and gardeners, alongside interactive workshops, and an opportunity to shop with local Black female-owned businesses.

What to Expect:

🌿 Panel Discussion:
Featuring Black women leaders from the agriculture sector, the panel will focus on the theme "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations." Gain valuable insights and inspiration from these powerful women who are shaping the future of farming and gardening in the community.

🌱 Workshops:

  • Beginner Gardening Workshop: Led by one of KIMANI Anku’s students, this session is designed for beginners who want to start their gardening journey. A full-circle moment that connects knowledge with practice.
  • Beginner Composting Workshop: Learn the basics of composting and how it contributes to sustainable gardening and farming practices.

🌸 Vendor Marketplace:
Explore products from 5-6 Black female-owned businesses offering everything from gardening tools to handcrafted goods, sustainable products, and more. Support local businesses and take home unique items to enhance your own gardening or farming experience.

This Event Will:

  • Empower women and inspire the next generation of farmers and gardeners.
  • Celebrate the legacy of Black women in agriculture.
  • Provide practical knowledge through workshops and discussions.
  • Create an opportunity for community connection and collaboration.
