Is This Real? is a Seattle-based rock band led by legendary musician Matt Cameron, known for his work with Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Originally conceived as a tribute project to the influential Portland punk band the Wipers, the group has since evolved into a vehicle for Cameron’s original songwriting and frontman presence.
The band formed in 2023, taking its name from the Wipers' seminal 1980 debut album. What began as a conversation between Cameron and guitarist Caspian Coberly—following a 2022 tribute show for Yes drummer Alan White—blossomed into a dedicated project honoring the raw, abrasive, and melodic sound of Wipers founder Greg Sage. The group made its live debut on August 9, 2023, at The Royal Room in Seattle, performing a set of Wipers classics.
