Together with community members, artists, partners, and supporters, we are excited to invite you to the Black & Here Community Centre Open Studio & Mural Launch.
This special event marks the unveiling of the Black & Here Mural and the public activation of a new community space in the heart of downtown Victoria.
Over the past several weeks, community members have come together through storytelling, dialogue, and art-making to create the Black & Here Mural—a collaborative artwork that reflects identity, belonging, resilience, and the many stories that shape our communities.
The Open Studio offers an opportunity to experience the creative process behind the mural, hear reflections from participants and project partners, and take part in conversations about representation, belonging, and community. It also marks an important milestone for the Black & Here Community Centre, a new space created to support culture, creativity, learning, and connection.
Join us as we:
- Unveil the completed community mural
- Explore sketches, artwork, and behind-the-scenes stories from the creative process
- Hear reflections from participants, artists, and project partners
- Celebrate the opening of a new space dedicated to creativity, culture, and connection
This project is about more than creating a mural. It is about making visible the people, stories, and relationships that help shape our city and region.
Drop in anytime between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 2. No cost.
