Learn how to safely and appropriately step in to support others at the workplace in our Active Bystander & Workplace Allies training!
About this Event

This training has been arranged by Birmingham Colmore and will be delivered by The Hollie Gazzard Trust. The training is designed for Birmingham Colmore BID members to learn more about sexual harassment and how they can help combat it by learning skills to safely intervene as a positive bystander.

When someone intervenes well:

  • The wrongdoer receives the message that their behaviour is not okay. This stops the harm in progress and can prevent them from doing it again.
  • It tells others that the behaviour is not tolerated and that it’s safe to intervene, changing the group norm.

Active Bystander training works with participants in a positive and empowering way to think about scenarios and helpful behaviours which could make a real difference and make the community safer for everyone.

The training team will cover the definition of a bystander and the different types of bystanders, outlining how a bystander can intervene to stop events before they happen or while they are happening. They will look at the 4 stages of intervention and the reasons why individual’s do not intervene including social psychological theory and social norms theory.

Our previous Active Bystander training sessions have focussed on creating a cadre of trained, positive male role models. However this session will be mixed (male and female) following expressions of interest from businesswomen.

Please note, catering is not being provided so participants will need to make their own early lunch arrangements prior to the start of this training. Tea, coffee & water will be provided but participants may wish to bring their own drinks.

This free-to-attend event is strictly for Birmingham Colmore BID members only. Attendees will need to use their workplace email address as proof that they are Birmingham Colmore members. Failure to do so will result in your registration being cancelled. Event registration & attendance is only via this Eventbrite link.

On the day of the event, attendees will need to report to the ground floor reception desk at 103 Colmore Row, where they will then be directed to the Shoosmiths LLP offices.

Any queries need to be directed to Paul Street, Project Manager - Safer Colmore, via email [email protected]
