Birds of Bass Rock
About this Event
Each year the Bass Rock in East Lothian is turned white by one of the world's largest colonies of Northern Gannets who rear their chicks on this safehaven. However, this internationally renowned seabird colony is at threat from avian flu, climate change, overfishing, and more.
For effective conservation, we must accurately understand how this population is faring, a difficult task when over 52,000 nests are crammed on to a small rock out at sea.
Hear from Beatrice, a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh, about why you should care about Scottish seabirds, and her research on how we can use advancing technologies such as drones and machine learning to survey the Gannets that call Bass Rock home.
