Explore the area around Lake Padden. We will meet at the far eastern parking lot (by the dog park). From S. Samish Way, take Lakeshore Drive to the end by the Lake Padden Dog Park. Restrooms are available there. Walking along the shoreline of Lake Padden (mostly on the north side of the lake) we should be able to see various winter waterfowl this time of year. Common visitors are American Widgeon, Canada Goose, Mallard, Double Crested Cormorant, Mergansers, Common Goldeneye, Scaups, Bufflehead, Ring-necked Duck, American Coot, Grebes, and others. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll see a Trumpeter Swan, Bald Eagle, Redhead, Great Blue Heron or others. If time permits, we may wander east from the parking lot a short distance, to see what field and forest birds that we can spot. The route is mostly flat, with some minor elevation gain if we decide to walk the south side trail.
