Bird Outing at Riverview Park

Join The Nature Conservancy and expert birder, Jim Nix, on a guided excursion at Riverview Park to make wildlife observations and identify species, specifically migrating spring birds. This event is part of City Nature Challenge 2026! The City Nature Challenge is a friendly four-day competition between cities (and rural areas) all over the world to see which one can observe the most nature. Make observations using the iNaturalist app from April 24-27 2026 to participate. Follow the Charlottesville Region project and help make this year a success!

Please download the free iNaturalist App on your phone or mobile device prior to the walk. Families are welcome, but this outing is geared to adults interested in birding of all experience levels. Please do not bring your pet to avoid scaring off any birds (service dogs are welcome). Restrooms are available at Riverview Park.

Riverview Park is featured as an accessible birding site on Birdability. It has a 2.3 mile loop of mostly paved, flat trail at least 60 inches wide with periodic benches. Ample parking is available. The entrance to Riverview Park is about a block from a stop on the Route 1 CAT public transport bus. However, it is a somewhat steep descent from the bus stop to the park. In case of inclement weather, we will move this event to Sunday, April 26 at 7:30am.
