About this Event

Join us on 17 November at Tonkin + Taylor for our final BIMinNZ Wellington event of 2026, as we explore the technology, innovation and collaboration behind Air New Zealand's remarkable new Hangar 4 project.

Designed by Studio Pacific Architecture and constructed by NZ Strong, Hangar 4 is the Southern Hemisphere's largest single span timber aircraft hangar. This impressive 15,000m² facility features a 98 metre clear span, enormous prefabricated timber trusses weighing 38 tonnes each, and an innovative approach to sustainable construction that sets a new benchmark for aviation infrastructure.

We'll be joined by Patrick Thompson from Studio Pacific Architecture and Jimmy Corric from NZ Strong, who will take us behind the scenes of this extraordinary project, exploring the digital tools, innovative construction methodologies and collaborative processes that helped bring it to life.

From complex design coordination and prefabrication to the challenges of construction within an operational airport environment, this session promises valuable insights into how technology and innovation are helping deliver some of New Zealand's most ambitious projects.

Come along to connect with Wellington's digital built environment community, hear from the people behind this impressive project, and celebrate another fantastic year of BIMinNZ events!
