Bill Orcutt est l’un des guitaristes les plus influents de la musique expérimentale contemporaine. Son jeu, immédiatement reconnaissable, mêle boucles mélodiques, attaques anguleuses et dissonances dans un paysage sonore situé entre primitivisme américain, jazz outsider et déconstruction radicale de la guitare. Jouant des instruments modifiés à deux cordes, Orcutt développe un langage sonore brut et tendu, souvent comparé autant aux compositeur·rice·s d’avant‑garde qu’aux figures du blues rural.
Cofondateur du groupe culte Harry Pussy, formation phare du noise‑rock des années 1990, Orcutt poursuit depuis une carrière solo largement saluée par la critique. Ses albums ont été distingués par WIRE, NPR, The Guardian et Rolling Stone. Setting est un trio basé dans le Piedmont de la Caroline du Nord, réunissant Jaime Fennelly, Nathan Bowles et Joe Westerlund, musiciens actifs au sein de projets tels que Mind Over Mirrors, Califone, Black Twig Pickers, Pelt, Sylvan Esso et Jake Xerxes Fussell. Ancré dans une pratique profondément collaborative, le groupe développe des improvisations riches et inventives, portées par une écoute attentive et un sens du jeu partagé.
Mêlant synthétiseurs, boucles cassette, banjo, claviers, zithers, électronique et percussions, Setting façonne un paysage sonore tactile où se rencontrent pulsations terrestres et élans célestes. Peut-être mieux connu pour son jeu de guitare dans le groupe de noise rock montréalais AIDS Wolf, Alex Moskos produit des disques sous le nom de Drainolith depuis 1999. Il a sorti d'innombrables cassettes, CDR et disques 7 pouces sur divers labels, aboutissant à deux albums complets : « Fighting » (2012) sur Spectrum Spools et « Hysteria » (2015) sur NNA Tapes.
Plus récemment, Moskos a joué et enregistré aux côtés de Max Eilbacher (Horse Lords) et Duncan Moore sous le nom de SEF III, ainsi qu'avec Nate Young, John Olson et le compositeur Raven Chacon, lauréat du prix Pulitzer, sous le nom de The Difficult Messages Band. Il a également joué aux côtés de Neil Hagerty (Royal Trux), Charles Balas et Nate Young dans Dan'l Boon (Drag City). Moskos est un historien amateur et travaille à la radio communautaire CKUT 90.3FM, la plus ancienne station de radio libre de Montréal. Il vit à Hochelaga, un quartier de l'est de Montréal, avec l'artiste Jessica Mensch et Boots The Cat. 2026 Drainolith met également en vedette les talents incroyables de la batteuse Destiny et de la déesse de la guitare Rián Adamian.
