Bike Rodeos BikeSafe @ Key West High School

We are pleased to present BikeSafe @ The Keys, a Bike Rodeo Workshop event series led by The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and KiDZ Neuroscience Center! The bike rodeos will teach kids bicycle handling and safety skills. This FREE activation will be held in the parking lot of Key West High School located at 2100 Flagler Ave, Key West, FL 33040.

Bike rodeos are bring your own bike events. We present bicycle “driving” courses, in a safe and protected environment, designed to simulate actual roadway situations commonly encountered by bicyclists. A bike rodeo is an effective way to involve parents, teachers and civic and community groups in helping young children learn how to ride safely. They also provide a social and interactive way to reinforce safe bicycling skills. Such skills emphasized and practiced in a bicycle rodeo often include: starting and stopping, using hand signals, scanning for traffic without weaving, making turns, safe maneuvering, entering a roadway safely, avoiding hazards, and balancing.

• Saturday, May 9th, 2026, from 10 AM - 1 PM

Come Prepared!

• Age Range: 5 - 12 years old
• Bring-your-own-bike and helmet, helmets will be provided for those who do not have one.
• This class is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
• Participants are encouraged to wear sunscreen.
• A parent or legal guardian should accompany minors ages 15 and below.

•⁠ 🚆Lower Keys Shuttle: Take the Lower Keys Shuttle to Palm Ave & Charter Row, exit south, head toward Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, turn left onto N Roosevelt Blvd, turn right onto 3rd St and the school will be on your left.

•⁠ ‍ 🚴‍♂️ Bike or Walk: Bike racks are available at the school. There’s a bike path along Heritage Trail.

Los rodeos ciclistas son eventos en los que cada participante debe traer su propia bicicleta. Presentamos circuitos de «conducción» de bicicletas, en un entorno seguro y protegido, diseñados para simular situaciones viales reales que los ciclistas encuentran habitualmente. Un rodeo ciclista es una forma eficaz de involucrar a padres, maestros y grupos cívicos y comunitarios para ayudar a los niños pequeños a aprender a andar en bicicleta de manera segura. También ofrecen una forma social e interactiva de reforzar las habilidades de seguridad ciclista. Las habilidades que se enfatizan y practican en un rodeo ciclista suelen incluir: arrancar y detenerse, usar señales manuales, observar el tráfico sin zigzaguear, realizar giros, maniobrar con seguridad, incorporarse a la vía pública de forma segura, evitar peligros y mantener el equilibrio.

¡Venga preparado!

Rango de edad: de 5 a 12 años

Trae tu propia bicicleta y casco; se proporcionarán cascos a quienes no tengan uno.

Esta clase es gratuita y abierta al público, pero se requiere inscripción previa.

Se recomienda a los participantes usar protector solar.

Un padre o tutor legal debe acompañar a los menores de 15 años o menos.
